The Grasslands Carnivores
Our Grasslands, grazing areas to a wide range of herbivores, including Gaur, Spotted deer and nilgai (bluebull), as well as smaller cats and ground birds such as quails, francolins, sand grouse, nightjars and lapwings.
With the restoration of the watertable, assisted habitat regeneration catalysed the process further. Compacted soil was aerated and indigenous grasslands seeded.  Locals were enlisted and trained to establish plant nurseries and take part in the restoration. More than a million indigenous trees have been planted over the decades, further helping to retain the monsoon rains.

Wild Dogs (Cuon alpinus)

Dogday Afternoon, This 70s Al Pachino style gangsta squad of the Chichghat Valley on those hot, sleepy afternoons when wild dogs prefer to lay around and languish in our warm winter sun.
Dholes, or Asiatic wild dogs are endemic to the subcontinent, these incredibly intelligent animals are now one of the most elusive wildlife in these forests.

Tiger (Panthera tigris)

On a warm winter morning, the resident Chichghat valley male tiger wakes up, to patrol his territory, in the Mahua grasslands.
One of the Mighty Males tigers of Tadoba  who rules this huge valley, we were overwhelmed by his gait when we see him cross this forest trail.
The tiger is among the most recognisable and popular of the world's charismatic megafauna.

The Jungle Cat (Felis chaus)

Predator and Prey, a battle of strategy and deception played out between the Jungle Cat and a muster of Peacocks.
The jungle cat has a uniformly sandy, reddish-brown or grey fur without spots; solitary in nature, except during the mating season and mother-kitten families.
